Homicide
Homicide includes murder, manslaughter, and certain non-criminal killings. Homicide that is unjustifiable and done with a malicious intent is not excusable and is a criminal offense. The specific intent of the killer usually determines whether a criminal homicide is classified as murder or manslaughter. The circumstances surrounding the killing determine whether a non-intentional homicide is criminal or not. A homicide is excusable if it is the result of an accident that occurred during a lawful act and the accident did not amount to criminal negligence. Homicides that are regarded as justified or excusable include acts of self-defense or a homicide that occurs when the killer has been threatened with death or serious injury.
